About
Bio
Joanne DiBona is an award winning, national accredited photographer and journalist covering experiential & luxury travel, travel photography, cruises (with specialization in small ship, luxury cruises), wine travel destinations, wine reviews, cultural tourism, soft adventure travel, restaurant and hotel reviews, travel product & clothing reviews, and holiday gift guides . She has served, together with her husband Tony DiBona, as Contributing Writer and Photographer for 10Best.com and USA Today since 2010, covering Travel and Tourism with an emphasis on travel inspiration, cultural itineraries, soft adventure experiences, history, fine dining and local culture. She also is the editor of the Get the Picture Travel blog, covering travel destinations and experiences as well as travel gadgets, accessories, clothing and other items to make travel more comfortable and efficient. She only creates travel articles based on her personal visit to a destination and first-hand, original photography. She also runs a photography website with galleries of her many images to be viewed on her website: joannedibonaphotography.com DiBona says, "Since I only create photo essays and online galleries and print articles based on my own photography and personal experiences at a destination, please do not waste your and my time on sending me third-party photos and content on destinations I haven’t personally experienced. Of her photo work, DiBona notes her photography website, http://www.joannedibonaphotography.com is "designed to fuel readers’ desire to visit a destination." She continues, "The site receives an average of 100,000+ visitors a month, so it is an additional way for me to highlight my media sponsor’s destination/amenities. In addition, I always provide courtesy photos and videos to them to use in their promotional efforts, as well as promoting them on all my social media outlets." DiBona says she reads all emails carefully, and responds to any message that is well-directed. She prefers to be contacted via email with all pitches. She is not averse to being pitched via social media, but typically uses these channels more to publicize a destination she's currently covering or her own published travel articles. She adds, "Do your homework. Take the time to research the journalist you are pitching. Every day I get dozens of PR pitches, most of them inviting me to write a travel piece using boilerplate copy and photos. It’s obvious that no one researched my work enough to see that I only write about destinations I’ve personally visited and photographed. When I do get that rare pitch that shows me that the PR pro has actually viewed my work, they’ve got my attention."
