Background and Format: Rates differ from advertising in that the space for competitions/promotions is paid for with the prize value. The minimum prize value is £600 for ¼ page although sometimes the space varies depending on the offer and how it will appeal to readers. Mechanics usually involve question and answer, token collect or vouchers cut out and reference codes. There is no real theme with types of competitions - anything from leisure products, health and beauty, activities to cinema tickets, days out, restaurants, food and drink, electrical goods. Competitions and promotions appear throughout the paper. At least 10 days from booking to print, with 2 weeks or more if possible, should be allowed.
