DPAC Blog
Launched in December 2010, DPAC Blog is a commercial disability and political weblog based in the UK. It is the official blog of Disabled People Against Cuts, a direct action group formed in the wake of austerity measures and protests against cuts to services for disabled people. Linda Burnip and Debbie Jolly are Co-Founders of DPAC and coordinators of the original Disabled Peoples’ Protest, a protest group who were instrumental in leading nationwide austerity protests. As disabled women Debbie and Linda are active advocates for disability rights. Linda set up the Local Housing Allowance Reform Group to campaign for changes in the way local housing allowance is administered to citizens with additional housing needs. Debbie serves on the board of the European Network on Independent Living and has written and presented widely on disability rights issues. Several members of the DPAC steering group contribute to the blog. Entries on DPAC Blog usually take the form of disability-related news (occasionally re-posted from external sites), protest announcements and recaps, events news, petition alerts and open letters, judicial motions, research and reports, and assorted commentary. Original photos from protests or events are sometimes included, as well as video footage and interviews. PR opportunities are available for relevant news and events, social research, political analysis, campaigning and interviews. DPAC believe that disabled people are entitled to rights not charity. Linda, Debbie and the team can be reached via email.
