The Herscher Pilot was established by Herscher Publishing Co. in July of 1976 as America was celebrating its Bicentennial. From July 1, 1979 to April 12, 2016 the newspaper had been owned and operated by Robert A. Mau. Since April of 2016, it has been owned and operated by Janet Mau.
