Homegrown Music - WVIA-FM
Home Grown Music is a radio series that presents regional artists in performances produced at the WVIA-FM studios. The emphasis is on original music by artists who offer something distinctive and away from the commercial pop mainstream. The series has presented new music virtually every week since 1976, with over 400 different individuals and groups featured. Each month since 1982, the series has also presented live in-studio concerts performed before an audience. Styles presented are wide-ranging, running from blues to acoustic folk to mainstream jazz to electronic to Renaissance-era music. Artists ranging from up-and-coming local groups to veteran national performers have made appearances on the series. As stated on the web site, "No fancy or pretentious music video effects, just great performances captured live as broadcast on the radio." The area of coverage is all of northeastern Pennsylvania and can be viewed on channel 44. Program is taped for a later broadcast on WVIA-TV.
