IIn the Mix - PBS/Public Broadcasting Service
In The Mix is a national TV series "for teenagers by teens" that addresses issues that teens frequently face, including alcohol, careers, dating violence, depression, drug abuse, gun violence, school violence, self image, smoking, and sports. In The Mix went on the air in 1992 as a weekly magazine-style series for young adults. The show has featured celebrities such as Tyra Banks, Neve Campbell, Will Smith, Third Eye Blind, Billy Baldwin, and Mark Messier to talk with teens about their work and their lives. The series covers topics concerning people in their teens and early twenties, however, executive producer Sue Castle says, "The show attracts a lot of teachers because of the topics we cover and is aired directly in schools during class time." In addition, "In The Mix" has created discussion guides designed to help teachers and students probe the issues presented in the shows as deeply as possible. The show is aired weekly on PBS channels nationwide. Shows are only produced every four to six weeks. The show does cover news stories, but only as they pertain to adolescents. "In The Mix" reaches approximately four million viewers. The show is affiliated with PBS and owned by Castle Works Productions. The show features various hosts.
