Background and Format: MIMS (the Monthly Index of Medical Specialities) is the print and online prescribing database for all healthcare professionals. First published in 1959, MIMS has grown to be the clinical reference for all healthcare professionals. Updated every month, MIMs aims to incorporate around 200 changes every month, providing news on drug launches and licence changes together with clinical guideline updates. MIMS is designed for use during patient consultations, with more than 3,500 formulations major branded and generic prescrption products categorised by therapeutic use. The drug monographs provide key information on the licensed information about medicines listed in each section. Sections are broken down into specialities and diseases. The MIMS book is published every month and is sent free of charge to the practice addresses of all registered UK-based GPs. Also available online, MIMS is part of the GP Online network of sites. The online version of MIMS contains additional resources and registration provides GPs, nurses and general practice staff with free access to the MIMS database of drugs and products. Circulation: Source: Publication Months of Distribution: March, June, September and December Affiliations: MIMS Dermatology is linked to the Cardiff Diploma in dermatology. The academic link provides the readers and subscribers to the journal ‘test yourself’ content and information about the courses. Aims of the journal: MIMS Dermatology was launched in 2005 in response to the government’s White paper that encouraged GPs to specialise and to provide services such as dermatology and minor surgery in primary care. It features original and review articles on dermatological conditions encountered in primary care, test yourself section, pictorial cases and medical education. Readers can also earn 5CPD credits towards revalidation and appraisal. Content: Skin consultations represent almost a quarter of all GP consultation. In recognition of this workload, MIMS Dermatology has launched a series of four MIMS Dermatology Guide to supplements. The topics selected are common in general practice: psoriasis, eczema, acne and skin cancers/melanoma.
