Macmillan Blog
Macmillan Blog is a commercial charity blog, and is the official blog of the Macmillan Cancer Support. It is based in London and predominantly aimed at a UK audience. The charity was founded in 1911 by Douglas Macmillan following the death of his father from the disease. The motto of the organisation is, "We exist to help improve the lives of people affected by cancer, both those living with cancer and also their families and carers." The charity works to raise awareness of cancer issues and campaign to bring about changes in policy. It is contributed by nurses, doctors, experts, advisers, volunteers, campaigners, fundraisers and people living with cancer. The blog's main contributors are people who suffer from the disease, or have been affected by the disease. The blog acts as a community for people to express their opinions and thoughts about the disease. The mission statement for the blog is, "Write down your experiences and share your knowledge with members of the community. Whether it's a personal journal or a record of your marathon training, your blog is a space for you to communicate your thoughts to the world." Although nurses and experts do contribute to the posts on the blog it is worth noting that the majority of content is by the general public who have been affected in some way by the disease. As a result of this the blog is updated every day, on several occasions. The most talked about subjects on the blog include Ovarian Cancer, Lung Cancer, Bowel Cancer, Breast Cancer, Prostate Cancer, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and more. PR opportunities are not obvious, however they do exist. If you wish to pitch an idea or story to the team at the Press Office. Before contact please be aware that the blog is an online community, which is a space for people affected by cancer to discuss the issues that affect them. It isn’t intended as media resource.
