WWPBA-TV
WPBA-TV is a local Atlanta-based PBS affiliate. WABE-FM is a sister radio station to WPBA-TV, both of which are owned and operated by the City of Atlanta Board of Education. The station debuted on February 17, 1958 as WETV-TV. It began as a classroom television service broadcasting only during school hours. In 1979, the Public Broadcasting Association of Greater Atlanta, Inc. (PBA) was formed to advise WETV-TV and WABE-FM on non-instructional programming. The station acquired its present call letters in 1984 to symbolize its new role of serving the needs of the Atlanta community. In April 1995, the station began broadcasting instructional and public broadcasting programming 24 hours a day. The station covers cultural, entertainment, public affairs, and educational programming related to the Atlanta metro region. WPBA-TV has no news department and therefore does not receive press releases. However, the station accepts public service announcements via fax.
