Background and Format:
British Journal of School Nursing covers all things to do with health care in school-aged children. There is a 'Week in a Life' article about a school nurse, and a 'Spotlight on' feature about specific practice taking place in certain areas. Regularly includes clinical reviews, original research, professional articles, education, case studies, legal commentary and news analysis.
BJSN believes that school nurses play an essential role in the health and well-being of school-aged children and young people. The journal aims to support all school nurses (including those working for or on behalf of local authorities, directly in schools and special needs school nurses) in their daily practice by ensuring that they have access to the latest information, policy and research. BJSN also provides a platform for school nurses to share innovations and examples of best practice with colleagues and to consolidate the evidence base for the profession.
Some of the regularly featured series and columns in the journal include:
Safeguarding: A series focusing on a range of child protection issues
Health promotion: Articles looking at how school nurses can intervene on specific public health issues
Innovations: Case studies and innovative projects
Resources: A selection of useful free resources on relevant topics
Special needs: A section dedicated to special needs school nursing
Representation: A platform for professional organisations and associations to share their latest new and advice.
