Background and Format: Gair Rhydd is Cardiff University's student paper, published weekly during term time. Paper covers News, Politics, Sport, TV, Science, Media, Health, Money and Jobs Political and editorial comment in English and in Welsh. Gair Rhydd has often appeared on the National Student Media Awards shortlist. Less than ten Students' Unions in the UK produce a weekly newspaper and gair rhydd has gone one step further with the popular fortnightly arts and lifestyle magazine supplement Quench. Compiled by students for students the Gair Rhydd covers the issues that effect students in Cardiff and across the UK and includes sections on the latest news, sport, features, politics, interviews, health, science & environment as well as the country's premier student Welsh language section, Taf Od.
