Bio

News from the CJS Office (previously known as The Countryside Jobs Service Blog) is a charity weblog based in the UK. It is the sister-site to countryside-jobs.com, a York-based online jobsite. The Countryside Jobs Service and the various sites were founded in October 2006 by Writer and Blogger Kerryn Humphreys. Coming from an ecology and education background, Kerryn is the Owner of the Countryside Jobs Service agency which she set up after recognizing a gap in the market back in 1998. She also works as the blog’s current Editor. The site is run and maintained by a small team of ex-rangers, educations officers and ecologists working on a co-operative basis to ensure readers’ are provided with the latest, most up to date and widest range of relevant information. The web portal specialises in countryside careers, rural recruitment, professional conservation training, and general UK countryside career information. It is self-published and updated on a regular basis. PR opportunities exist but are limited to industry news, seminars, training courses and professional events. PRs are therefore encouraged to familiarise themselves with the blog’s content before they consider approaching. The Editor can be best contacted via phone, email or post.

Freelancers should always target their pitches to a specific section of the magazine to show that they've done their homework and understand the publication's coverage. Writers should also provide a quick summary of their idea, including a news peg, and be sure to mention info on any media coverage the story has received already. Ideally they want to receive pitches for exclusive stories. Publicists should always feel free to pitch stories about fashion, beauty, politics, women in the news, and human rights around the world. Be sure to keep in mind that the editors work several months in advance.
