    Spectrum News NY1

Spectrum News NY1 is Charter Cable's 24-hour news and information channel, covering all five of New York's boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx. In addition, the network covers the state capital Albany in any political news that directly relates to New York City. The network launched on September 8, 1992 with the goal of providing superior news reporting from reporters who write, produce and shoot their own news stories. The network assigns reporters using the beat system similar to that found at newspapers. The beats are either geographical or topical. The geographic beats include each of the five boroughs, while the topical beats include health, technology, mass transit, law enforcement, entertainment, neighborhoods, education, and business. All reporters have spent time in New York and are very familiar with its atmosphere. The network operates on the standard news wheel throughout the day. At night, the format shifts to more topical discussion-oriented programming. PR professionals are advised to send press releases to the network's assignment desk or to the producer of the appropriate Spectrum News NY1 program. Because they write, produce and shoot their own stories, many of the network's reporters are interested in receiving story ideas as well. All information sent should be of interest to New York viewers. The best time to fax press releases to the assignment desk is between 7am and 3pm, ET. Keep all pitches brief but specific, and include appropriate contact information. Pitches are generally not taken over the phone, but a heads-up phone call is acceptable. The network is watched predominantly by adult New York viewers interested in daily news. Spectrum News NY1 is one of the most-watched cable news networks in the metropolitan New York area, seen by 2.1 million homes, representing 4.5 million viewers. In addition to common households, the network is also a popular choice in corporate offices, restaurants, bars and hotel rooms. For advertising rates and information, contact an advertising sales representative. They ask that information including guest booking information be sent two days ahead as they dont plan that far in advance.

    The Weather Channel

The Weather Channel was created in 1982 as the first 24-hour, seven days a week channel devoted entirely to weather. Since then, it has expanded to include a top-rated Web site, a 24-hour weather network in Latin America, a weather hotline, radio station, and newspaper service. The Weather Channel includes news updates throughout the day, as well as local weather updates "on the eights" of every hour. News topics include stories about local weather and environmental events, disasters, and forecasts, and how weather affects people. The Weather Channel was acquired by Entertainment Studios in 2018 and can be seen in nearly 100 million homes nationwide. Pitches can be sent to the assignment desk by fax, and are distributed to producers and reporters accordingly. If the pitch is for an editorial segment during live programming, pitches should go through the news desk or news director. Keep in mind the national audience so unless the event or product has broad appeal, it might not get attention. It is currently owned by TWC Product and Technology LLC.
