A Better NHS is an individual UK blog covering developments in the National Health Service and proposed changes to it.
Blogger Jonathon Tomlinson lives in Hackney, east London. He is an NHS GP in the area and as has worked as a volunteer with Medicins sans Frontieres in Afghanistan and Nepal. Jonathon is concerned about the direction the NHS is headed and set up the blog "to inform twitterers and others about the real scandal going on with the NHS, which is its conversion into a pre-1948 (start of the NHS) market economy as a result of steady lobbying from UK and US private health insurers and a prevailing neoliberal political ideology".He is on the steering committee of the advocacy group Keep Our NHS Public and a member of the British Medical Association. Jonathon has a MA in Human Values and Contemporary Global Ethics from King’s College London and is particularly interested in "the moral implications of healthcare provision".
A Better NHS consists largely of news and commentary written from Jonathon's perspective. Some are long-form and act as essays detailing his thoughts on an NHS- or health-related issue, including many external links and research. Jonathon also highlights campaigns he works with through Keep Our NHS Publicand other advocacy groups, often posting open letters, press releases and media alerts.
