Background and Format:
Launched in March 2008 BBC Arabic Television is a news and information television channel broadcast to the Middle East by the BBC. The BBC also runs a website that serves as an Arabic language news portal and provides online access to both the TV and radio broadcasts. The radio service is broadcast from Broadcasting House in London as well as from a BBC Bureau in Cairo.

The BBC has enhanced its multimedia service this week by extending the BBC Arabic television broadcasts to 24 hours a day and introducing five new television presenters from across the Arab world – Makki Helal, Dima Izzedin, Malak Jaafar, Tareq Naser and Nouran Sallam. BBC Arabic is launching a television service on Tuesday 11th March 2008 at 10am, to work alongside their radio and internet (www.bbcarabic.com) offerings. The television service will be freely available on satellite and cable in North Africa, the Middle East and the Gulf, with a schedule which includes news headlines every 15 minutes and a full news summary every 30mins. There is a twice daily news and current affairs programme, Newshour, which highlights news, analysis, key interviews and debate on the top events making the news in the region and around the world that day.
