Background and Format:
BPS Research Digest is a developing healthcare blog that is based in the UK, but it is aimed at a UK and US audience. The blog has a global readership due to the content that is frequently covered on the blog. Research Digest predominantly covers the brain, and brain behaviour. It is published by The British Psychological Society and was founded in February 2003. Although originally it started out as a fortnightly email with over 27,000 subscribers, it was turned into a blog in 2005. In 2010 the blog was voted the Best Psychology Blog at the inaugural Research Blogging Awards. The Editor Christian has written for numerous other publications including the Times, the guardian and the New Scientist. The blog provides features for students, professionals, case studies from Psychologists and covers many topics to do with psychology, ranging from entertainment to science. The blog is updated two or three times a week and posts are usually between 500 and 1000 words in length.

The The Editor is Christian Jarrett, and has been in the role since the blog's inception. Research Digest provides original, authoritative reports on the latest psychology research papers. The blog prides itself on covering topics and studies outside of the mainstream media. The Editor trawls hundreds of peer-reviewed journals looking for the latest findings from across the breadth of psychological science. The aim is to write accessible, accurate reports on those studies that make an important contribution, that are relevant to real life, timely, novel or thought-provoking. They say, "We want to demonstrate how interesting and useful psychological science can be, whilst also casting a critical eye over the methods used. We also hope you'll use the comments function to have your say on new research reported here."
