About

Bio

Breast Cancer Care News is a mainstream charity and healthcare weblog. It is the official blog of Breast Cancer Care, the London-based charity which was founded in 1972. The blog is aimed at a UK audience, and the charity gives support to over 22,000 people with breast cancer each year. The motto of the organisation is "information and support for anyone affected by breast cancer." Along with the website and blog the charity has a magazine called Vita, which is published two times a year. The Newsblog acts as a way for the charity to make any announcements, or update people with news or changes. The content of the blog is provided by the staff who work for the charity, from the Chief Executive to volunteers and fundraisers. Unfortunately the bylines that appear on blog posts only provide the first name of the Blogger. You are able to click on a Blogger; however it requests you to sign in to the charity's website. The blog's content is mainly news based, providing any latest news on cancer or from the charity itself. Other categories that feature on the blog include: helpline, community, campaigning, fundraising and volunteering. Within those categories the types of topics that the blog discusses are policy response, parliamentary activity, current campaigns, breast cancer awareness month, upcoming events and our clinical statements. Although the Breast Cancer Care Newsblog is mainly a charity and healthcare organisation, a large portion of the content crosses over into politics, largely due to the posts that discuss parliamentary activity and policy response. The charity is very active on various social media platforms, in particular Vimeo, Twitter and Flickr. They often take photos or videos from fundraisers, awards and events that they hold. For further video content head to the charity's YouTube channel here: www.youtube.com/user/BreastCancerCare. PR opportunities are not obvious, as the blog acts mainly as self-promotion or as a place to announce news or updates from the charity. However, PR opportunities do exist, especially as they are constantly fundraising or holding events. The team can be reached by email or phone number. Instagram: instagram.com/breast_cancer_care

  • The Chronicle of Philanthropy
    The Chronicle of Philanthropy

The Chronicle of Philanthropy provides news and information for non-profit executives, fundraisers, and professional employees of foundations. The publication covers trends in giving, fundraising, grant making, volunteers, management and professional development. Regular features include profiles of foundations, updates on federal and state regulations, tax and court rulings, and a calendar of events. Unless something is urgent, they prefer contact by email rather than phone. Press Releases should be relevant to nonprofit practitioners across the country, and if there's been a recent article about a similar development at a different organization, they probably won’t cover it again soon. They like: stories about best or innovative practices in fundraising and managing organizations, profiles of interesting charity leaders, fundraisers, and donors, and new trends in giving or fundraising. They usually don’t cover: galas, celebrity events, groundbreakings and ribbon cuttings, and gifts of less than $1 million. The Chronicle’s Opinion section is designed to spark robust debate about all aspects of the nonprofit world. They welcome Op-Ed submissions that provide new insights and promote innovative thinking about leadership, fundraising, grant-making policy, and more. They especially appreciate articles about timely topics. Most of the pieces are about 1,000 to 1,200 words.
