Ethical Consumer was launched in March 1989. Each issue contains practical guides to a wide range of products, examining various aspects, from social and environmental impacts of a product to the ethical records of the companies that make it. Each issue includes the latest news on human rights, environmental and animal welfare campaigns and also a range of in-depth features on ethical talking points and dilemmas.

It broadcasts from its studios in London Rd, Gloucester on 95FM (Stroud), 95.8FM (Cirencester) & 104.7FM, 1413AM, DAB Digital Radio and Online. The station carries music, local and national news and sport. The majority of the station's programming is produced and broadcast from the Gloucester studios. During off-peak hours, BBC Radio Gloucestershire also carries regional programming for the West and the South West, including its own output on Sundays. As with all BBC Local Radio stations, it also airs the networked weekday evening shows, originating from BBC Radio Leeds and produced independently by Wire Free Productions.
