Galavision is a Spanish language cable network that provides broad-based programming for Hispanic families. The network operates in conjunction with its sister network, Univision. The network also gets live and taped programming from its partner Televisa. Galavision offers its viewers children's programming, movies, music, news, soap operas, sports, and variety shows. Over 70 percent of its programming is original or exclusive. Launched in October 1979 as the first Spanish language cable network offering 24 hour programming, Galavision has become a leading cable network with 10 million viewers. Approximately 60 percent of all Hispanic cable homes get Galavision. 80 percent of its distribution falls within the top nine Hispanic DMAs. It is the only Nielsen-rated Hispanic cable network.
In general, press releases should be faxed to the Miami assignment desk at (305) 471-4155. Once received, the assignment editor will allocate the press release to the appropriate person. Most assignment editors prefer to receive press releases by fax in the morning. The network is interested in receiving the following PR materials, related to the local Hispanic community: company news; events listings; personality profiles and interviews; public appearances; rumors and insider news; and social trend stories. New show pitches should be directed toward the programming director. The local and national news desks of Galavision use CNN, Reuters, and the Associated Press as news sources.
