Established in 1994 and written for primary care physicians and managed care decision makers as an independent, peer-reviewed journal offering evidence-based, practical information for improving health care quality. Educates physicians and managed care decision makers about clinical outcomes and health policy issues currently affecting the practice of medicine.
Regular departments include: Outcomes and the Patient, presenting research and case studies about clinical problems; Outcomes in Practice, which highlights how clinical practices are managing outcomes; Measuring clinical performance, keeping up to date on current trends; Original Research, which covers research on primary care outcomes; Reviews, of outcomes studies; Editorials; Health Policy Issues; and the CME program, which is accredited through the Wayne State University School of Medicine. Topics in the journal include disease management, information systems, physician training, legal issues, state and government policies, outcomes management, and cost analysis.
