WABC-TV is the ABC affiliate for the greater Metropolitan New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut areas (including 29 counties) and serves as the flagship of ABC Television Network. The station broadcasts locally on channel 7. Newscasts air weekdays in the morning, midday and evening; weekend newscasts air in the morning and evening. They also provide coverage of special topics and events and produce the nationally syndicated talk show Live with Kelly and Mark.
WABC-TV hit the airwaves as WJZ-TV in 1948 and switched to its current call letters in 1953. Many of the station's former journalists went on to work for national networks, including Geraldo Rivera, Joan Lunden and Lara Spencer.
