About

Bio

WETA-TV is the PBS affiliate for the Washington, D.C. market. The station is owned by the Greater Washington Education & Television Assn. WETA-TV broadcasts locally on channel 26. As the station produces a fair amount of national programming for PBS stations, it's best to pitch with discretion, as not all programming on WETA is local. From 1958 to 1961, the programs produced by WETA for in-school use were broadcast on WTTG-TV. On October 2, 1961, WETA aired programming on its own channel. These programs included Elementary Spanish, Children's Literature, and Window On Our World. In 1967, the station debuted its first color telecast and their staple program Washington Week In Review, the first station-produced program accepted by PBS for national distribution. In 1985 the 30-minute roundtable program Around Town aired. The station as a whole has garnered eleven Peabody Awards.
