WNYC-FM is a non-commercial station. The format of the station is news, talk and music. WNYC-FM broadcasts to the New York City area at 93.9 FM. WNYC-FM debuted in 1943. WNYC-FM remained a municipal entity until January 27, 1997, when Mayor Giuliani privatized it and its sister station, WNYC-AM. WNYC-FM and -AM are National Public Radio member stations. WNYC-FM programming is geared toward New York area listeners, ages 18 to 64, interested in news features and general interest talk. WNYC produces local programming especially directed to New Yorkers, as well as programs that are broadcast across the United States, and even some programming that is available around the world.
