WVEC-TV is the local ABC affiliate on Channel 13 for the greater Norfolk, VA area. The station is owned by TEGNA Inc. WVEC-TV covers the latest in news, sports, and weather. WVEC-TV serves the Norfolk area, including the Virginia Eastern Shore and Northeastern North Carolina. The station has an office in Hampton, Virginia as well. WVEC-TV is carried on all area cable systems and has been on the air since 1953. At that time it was operating as a NBC affiliate. On April 1, 1980, WVEC-TV was purchased from its founder Tom Chismam by Corinthian Broadcasting, a division of Dun & Bradstreet. In 1984, the station was sold again; this time to the Belo Corporation out of Dallas. Several of WVEC-TV's newscasts also broadcast on LNC/Local News on Cable.
