NPR (National Public Radio) is an international producer and distributor of non-commercial news, talk and entertainment programming. A privately supported, not-for-profit membership organization, it works in partnership with more than 250 independently operated, non-commercial public radio stations.

While the station does not sell advertising spots, corporate sponsorship and underwriting opportunities are available. WBEZ-FM was established in 1943 as an extension service of the Chicago Board of Education, and offering educational instruction during the school year while schools were in session. The station became a National Public Radio member station in 1970.
