NPR (National Public Radio) is an international producer and distributor of non-commercial news, talk and entertainment programming. A privately supported, not-for-profit membership organization, it works in partnership with more than 250 independently operated, non-commercial public radio stations.
ViewWWBUR-FMWBUR-FM is a non-commercial station. The format of the station is news and talk. WBUR-FM broadcast to the Boston area at 90.9 FM. WBUR debuted in 1950 as a low-power educational station owned by Boston University. In 1971, the station had enough full-time employees to qualify as a public radio station certified by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The station became a National Public Radio member station in 1980 and established its identity as a news station.
ViewWNYC-FMWNYC-FM is a non-commercial station. The format of the station is news, talk and music. WNYC-FM broadcasts to the New York City area at 93.9 FM. WNYC-FM debuted in 1943. WNYC-FM remained a municipal entity until January 27, 1997, when Mayor Giuliani privatized it and its sister station, WNYC-AM. WNYC-FM and -AM are National Public Radio member stations. WNYC-FM programming is geared toward New York area listeners, ages 18 to 64, interested in news features and general interest talk. WNYC produces local programming especially directed to New Yorkers, as well as programs that are broadcast across the United States, and even some programming that is available around the world.
ViewWBEZ-FMWBEZ-FM is a non-commercial station. The format of the station is talk and news. WBEZ-FM broadcasts to the Chicago area at 91.5 FM. The target audience of the station is adults, ages 18 to 64. While the station does not sell advertising spots, corporate sponsorship and underwriting opportunities are available. WBEZ-FM was established in 1943 as an extension service of the Chicago Board of Education, and offering educational instruction during the school year while schools were in session. The station became a National Public Radio member station in 1970.
