    WBUR-FM is a non-commercial station. The format of the station is news and talk. WBUR-FM broadcast to the Boston area at 90.9 FM. WBUR debuted in 1950 as a low-power educational station owned by Boston University. In 1971, the station had enough full-time employees to qualify as a public radio station certified by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. WBEZ-FM was established in 1943 as an extension service of the Chicago Board of Education, and offering educational instruction during the school year while schools were in session. The station became a National Public Radio member station in 1970.
